Death by soy milk

Hey everyone. How's it going?

Things are going great here down in Talara. It's been a great couple of weeks. I apologize for not sending an email for a few weeks, I was horribly sick last week and finally got over it last week. I drank like three glasses of soy milk and it took a turn for the worse and had me throwing up at 3am. After that I got a high fever and then basically ended the week with Covid. Not confirmed but pretty sure. Interesting week, but life goes on nonetheless.

We were able to have the baptisms of Mariana and Rodolfo last week which was a great experience as always. Great to see them progress and take that next step. They both watched general conference as well which was great. We have a couple of friends progressing that will hopefully get baptized soon as well. Unfortunately, I will not be here to see them due to the new transfer starting tomorrow.

Yes, you heard me correctly. A new transfer already. Six very fast weeks later, here we are again. This time though, I will be leaving my area and getting a new companion. My new area is called Sullana and it's just about the hottest it gets here in Piura. At least that's what I've heard. We are approaching summer here as well, so that's exciting. On the bright side, the showers will no longer be ice baths like they have been in my current area. Although I'm not sure what's better, very cold showers and staying cool during the night, or less cold showers yet sweating through the night. We'll have to see about that one.

My new companion is Elder Gibbons, a mission legend and 2 time zone leader of mine from the past. It should be a good time. Tomorrow early in the morning we will be going to Piura, and from there to our new areas. I'm slowly making my way around the mission. I've now served/am about to serve in every major city except for Tumbes. A city right next to the border of Ecuador. One day I'll make it. As for now though, Sullana is the place for me.

Last thing I wanted to mention is a talk I really liked from General Conference. The one from President Oaks. He talked about how there are many people in this world who get easily angered and who throw harsh words at others, or act out of anger. Is this really necessary though? The answer is no. We, as members of the church, have to strive to be more like Jesus Christ. Did he ever get angry or lash out at people? Once again, the answer is no. We should all try our best to be peacemakers. Sometimes we will get angry, which is normal, but the question is what we do with it. Let's just keep it to ourselves guys, it will solve so many problems.

That's my sermon for today. Thanks for tuning in.

Until next week,

Elder Spangler
