I speak chino
How's it going everyone! Hope you've all had a good week! This week felt pretty quick and I already only have 2 more weeks of this transfer, it's crazy! Also, Christmas officially started, which is weird cause its basically summer everyday here. But anyways, without further ado, let's get into the good stuff.
The other day we were waiting at the church to have a baptism, and the house next to us started blasting Yeah by Usher. It was amazing, it brought me back to all the stake dances that I would go to when I was a lad. We also went to a mall on Friday and they started playing Kill Bill by SZA. It was also amazing. Brought me back to the days when I used to kill bill. Don't get me wrong I love me some good Peruvian music, but it was nice to hear some American music for a little bit.
The other night I finally bought some peanut butter, which I haven't eaten since I got here. It tasted kinda bad but it's all good because I put it on some oreos and it was delicious. After that, I ran into my long lost twin and pierced my ears with a needle and an apple. I know all my family will get that reference, and I hope everyone else did too. If you didn't, sorry. But it was a good little snack, to say the least.
Yesterday before lunch, we got invited to a member's house to eat something. They gave us this weird meal that wasn't bad but I just didn't love it. It was like this shredded chicken soaked in some thick yellow sauce. I was so full by the end and I couldn't eat anymore. After, regardless of our fullness, we went to our actual lunch. We sat down, and they brought us the EXACT SAME MEAL. I swear I was about to die, and I almost did. But I was barely able to finish it thankfully, it was not a very pleasant experience.
I tricked some kids into thinking that I spoke Chinese, which was actually super easy. I just made some Chinese sounds with my mouth and then told them it meant something random in Spanish. Sorry that sounded kinda racist, but just remember that I'm not racist. Anyway, it was a good time. The thing with the kids is, they're either super fun and funny, or they'll bully you for being white and not knowing Spanish. It can go both ways.
On Thanksgiving we had some pretty fun exchanges, and I had to lead the area with an elder named Elder Bear that just got here like two weeks ago. So we were just 2 new white guys taking on Puerto Paita. Thankfully, the spirit helped us a lot and it actually ended up going pretty good. It was definitely a stressful day for me, but I got through it. After all, this ain't my first rodeo.
We had little mini exchanges on Saturday night, and I was paired up with Elder Hill, my zone leader. He's a super awesome missionary and it was super fun. While we were walking during the night some random guy came up to us and asked us if we could give him something, anything. Just some type of little gift, in his own words. He was definitely just asking us for money because he just saw us as these two rich white guys that have everything. So instead of giving him money, we just stole all of his and ran away. Just kidding. Sorry.
But anyways, now to the important stuff. This week, I was reading in 3 Nephi when Christ visits the Americas. Something I took out was that before judging others, we first need to think about ourselves, and make the changes we need to make, instead of telling others to do so. Sometimes we judge others for things that we do as well. So I wanted to challenge you guys to try and judge less, and remember that we need to change ourselves, instead of changing others. I promise you guys will find more happiness in your lives with this small step.
That's about it for this week guys, thanks for all your prayers this week I definitely felt them! Have a good week and Merry Christmas!
